Turquoise Hall Table Restyled

Again, here is the original table (hiding behind the chairs)...

And here it is again, painted white...

And now....

Here it is ....

Painted ....

 Don't you just love it!

Doesn't it have so much more personality now!

And the process...

Firstly I stripped all the white paint off the top and gave it a good sand with my electric sander.
Then I used two coats of black stain on the top.

Then I painted the rest of the table turquoise, which I mixed up myself with some left over paints.

After this had totally dried, I used my electric sander to fully distress all the edges and some of the in between bits.  I almost never distress with a sander, but this piece had been so fiddly painting and repainting that I just couldn't bring myself to invest more time hand sanding it.  I love the outcome anyway. :)

Then two coats of poly over the entire table.
I love the way the poly brings out the distressing.

And then I was finished. :)

Now I'm finally happy with my table! :)

What do you think?

Turquoise Cabinet Update

Remember the turquoise cabinet I made over a short while ago?  Here is a reminder ...

Not a great pic, but the top drawer has a small vintage brass knob attached.  I always thought it looked too small so I've been keeping an eye out for a more suitable one.  Today I noticed this one in the hardware store for $4.

I think it matches nicely, don't you? :)

Project complete.

Until I decide to change it again ....

Chicken Wire Framed 3D Star

Okay, so I'm a bit behind the times, but this was my first chicken wire project and I'm so impressed how easy it was. :)

One old picture frame, painted white, sanded and distressed.  Glass removed.
Roll of "bird wire" (has smaller holes than chicken wire) purchased from the hardware and cut to frame size.
Attach with staple gun and you're done!

I then printed out a cardboard 3D star. Folded, and added some black paint to the creases for emphasis.

Then tied the star onto the wire using gorgeous jute twine.  Don't you just love twine. :)

Oh, yeah, and a quick spray of clear gloss on the photo frame to seal the paint.

Very cute if I do say so myself.

I think I'll hang this one on the wall and maybe add some hooks to the bottom of the frame. :)

I only wish I had made one at Christmas.

:) Julie

DIY No Cost Wire Cutlery Holder

Just a reminder, I was coveting one of these ...

Then I saw one of these ...

But when I saw the price ($26.99), my "budget conscious thrifty self" stepped in and said no way.  Damn that thrifty self! :)

So, I decided to use what I already had and make a DIY No Cost Wire Cutlery Holder.

This is what I came up with ....

What do you think?

I used a round self painted white & turquoise wire basket (thrifted at a yard sale for $1), some old white coffee mugs, and some highball glasses we don't use much.  I fit them all neatly into the basket and then added our cutlery, and the kids as well :)  The kids at the front and all the sharp pointy knives at the back in the glass jars, away from little fingers.

I used an old white vase which was the perfect size to store our larger knives. And our other utensils (most of which are in the dishwasher instead of the photo, hehe) are now in a white tin vase that I also got at a yard sale for $1. Then I placed them all in a white tray (also something I had thrifted for $2 and painted myself) on our kitchen counter.

So given I already had everything, it actually cost me nothing.  Not too shabby. :)

I'm still considering swapping out the coffee cups for glass jars.  Hmmm...

Now I've just got to stop automatically opening the cutlery drawer when I want something! Hehe.

WANTED - Wire Cutlery Holder

Okay, so I've seen something I really like on the net and have been searching and obsessing about getting one for days.  Has this ever happened to you? What was it?

I saw this super gorgeous "must, must, must have" wire cutlery holder on a recent blog post (which I've searched for but can't find to give credit to unfortunately), but was able to find a pic on Google.

Here it is ........

Isn't it just divine! So Shabby French!

But of course, only available in America. :(  Moving has crossed my mind.

Then this afternoon I was looking on Flower Power's website at the Homewares, and guess what I found ...

No, not the same one, but very similar. :)

I'm going to repurpose this pot plant holder into a cutlery holder. I can either replace the pots with glass jars (which I'm leaning towards) or spray paint them.  And the wire can too be painted or left as is. Decisions, decisions.  It's going to be perfect for my cutlery. :)

Guess I'm going shopping tomorrow. :)

DIY Faux Vintage Window

I made this Faux Vintage Window from a large picture frame, and a strip of beading cut to size and glued down the centre.  I painted it all white, then used black paint on a sponge to create an aged look.  I then gave it all a sand to blend the paint better.  And that is it. :)  Very easy.

I'll probably change it up, for for the time being, I've attached a twig style wreath with jute twine. :)

It looks perfect on our lounge room wall in between my shabby teal shutters. :)

OMG - I received the Liebster Award!

What is the Liebster Award you might be asking?

Liebster means beloved, favorite, dearest in German.  The Liebster Award and is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers to promote and encourage new friendships among the blog community.

After Debbie from Inspired Honey Bee received the Liebster Award herself, she passed on the love by nominating my blog, and in particular my Numbered Crate On Wheels, with the same prestigious and humbling award.

Debbie wrote:
"Repurposing is so important to me and if I can't sell or donate it, there will be a new use. That's what I love about Knot All That I Seam (clever, I know). I recently fell in love with her numbered crate on wheels and I hope to find something similar to put some potted plants in! Thanks for sharing your inspiration with us!"

Wow, thank you for such an amazing wrap Debbie!  It's so nice to know I'm inspiring other people in the blogging world, and gaining new friends along the way. :)

You can read Debbie's full post here at Inspired Honey Bee: IHB receives the liebster award! to see all the nominated sites. :)

While you are there, be sure to check out Debbie's amazing blog.

Now it's my turn to share the love and nominate 5 deserving sites too. What a hard decision!  I'm going to have to think on this one. :)
