Our Bathroom Restyled!

Remember when I painted our vanity and mirror a dry brushing of mint green paint?

It lasted longer than I would have thought, until I changed my mind again. :)

Originally they were a varnished woodgrain, but that just made them blend into the orange tiled floor.

Now, the vanity and mirror are white! They make the bathroom look so much brighter.

I'm so embarrassed to show you our floor tile grout, but here is the nasty before photo ...

Before I decided to paint the grout white that is. :)

The grout was a brown sort of greyish colour and just looked dirty all the time.  I hated it. I did some much research about how to change it, then finally decided just to paint it.  I used Zinnier Primer with Stain Block and using a stiff brush, brushed a thick coat of paint over the grout, then wiped with excess paint off the tiles with a wet paper towel.

Here is the result ...

The floor literally shines now!  I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but given our bathroom floor is so small, another coat would be super easy to do when or if it needs it.  I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.

I also came across a post for cleaning shower glass and use it all the time now on the whole shower (while I'm showering).  Its just dishwashing liquid with vinegar, add a bit of warm water in a spray bottle and shake.  Just spray it all over the shower, clean myself, then rinse off.  I do it about once a week and it makes the shower sparkle! Our shower has never looked so clean!  All those sudsy little finger prints come right off. :)

But for those times when I don't have time to clean the shower and guests are coming, I installed a rod above the glass shower wall and using some cool shower curtain black clip rings from Ikea, I installed a cheap white shower curtain.  Love it!

The original bathroom also had a horrible row of floral tiles around the entire room.  I simply used some tile paint and painted them white.

Have you heard of memory foam shower mats?  I got one a few days ago and love it! It feels so soft and luxurious under foot, and dries super fast, even in Winter! And it's machine washable. Did I mention it was half price? :)  I went with green cause we still have green towels and I'm happy to use green accents.  Including this vintage green footstool that I picked up for $5 at a yard sale.  It is perfect to sit on when drying the kids after their bath. (And look at that white grout!)

I also got this super cute hand soap dispenser and soap holder by Linen House at My House for half price a few days ago.  Bargain!  I love the green floral designs on them.  I have been looking for new ones for ages.

So over all I'm really happy with our bathroom restyle. :)

Enough blogging for tonight, I'm off to clean myself, and the shower. ;)

Little Boys Bedroom Makeover!

Over the holidays my 3 year old son's bedroom also got a mini makeover which I'm thrilled to share with you.

So let's take a quick tour.

As you walk into Lochie's room you see his dress up corner.

I added navy sheets costing $14 over the top of his tan coloured block out curtains to make it more colourful.  My son wanted blue walls so it was a compromise.

And the Rockstar hook hanger is a new addition for $5.
The mirror I had spare and same with the blue plastic storage box.

Above the dress ups we added some cute car wall stickers for $5.  The old number plate is from one of my husbands first cars.

His main light shade I swapped for a smaller industrial style one for $5.

It lets so much more light into the room and looks a lot better than the larger one I had previously hung.

Above his bed we hung his name sign which I had created for his birthday party last year.

The DIY board and batten walls are also a recent addition.  And I kept the Hog Bristle up the top.

We did however add some cute dinosaur wall stickers for $10.

I recently moved his Ikea drawers back to his room and kept his matching side table. He currently has a Thomas rug, but I'm searching for a more neutral one.

I also bought him a new bedside lamp a short while back which I think is really cool and industrial style and cost approx $25.

We purchased the Dinosaur quilt cover for $16.

Mickey and Sully love sleeping with Lochie.

I love Lochie's white wooden bed as it is low enough for him to climb into.

So here is the before and after ...

The before was just a bit too grown up.

And now his room is dino terrific! :)  And for approx $100 all up including the new walls.

Little Girls Pink Bedroom Makeover!

Over the school holidays I decided to let the kids redecorate their bedrooms, under my guidance of course. ;)

We started with Holly's room. Here is what her room looked like before ...

Pretty, but just a bit too grown up for my 5 year old. She wanted pink, and lots of it. :)

We started with the walls first. They went from Hog Bristle (light tan) to Precious Pink using a sample pot for $6.

Then we mixed up 3 packets of wall stickers around the wall costing $15.

I purchased 2 cans of Pink Flamingo spray paint at $10 a can and sprayed her main light shade...

... and bed which were originally cream colours.

I had a fairytale style mirror in my stash so it also got a Flamingo Pink make over and hung on her wall. I also replaced her tan floral fabric lamp shade with a pink polkadot one for $5.

Her old tan block out curtains were replaced with pink block outs for $29.

And no little girls room would be complete without a pink over the bed canopy for $12.  She loves the way the netting falls around the sides of her bed.

The new Lala Loopsy Quilt Cover was an early birthday present.  While the cute butterfly cushions was only $7.  The bed lights I made out of old christmas lights and fairy cupcake papers I had on hand.

Her name sign was from her last birthday party decorations, ...

... as was the bunting.

I would have liked to get her a new rug, but nothing has caught my eye yet.

The total room make over was just under $100.  My daughter's happiness with her new room - priceless.

So now my little angel is pretty in pink, just the way a 5 year old should be. :)
