The Christmas Itch

Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling that exciting little itch of Christmas already?

Last year I didn't get too creative, but everything looked pretty nonetheless.

The year before I had the decorations up in mid October and was in full DIY Christmas swing the whole season.  Yes, that is a real branch above our table.

And ideas for this Christmas' decorations are starting to swirl.  I'm thinking of a more rustic theme this year with lots of white, wood, and greenery.

So when do you think you will start putting up your decorations?

My New Lounge Room Office Area and Hubby Built Desk!

: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">

My lovely new Office Area is complete!

I recently posted how my newly titled "Handy Man Husband" custom made me this desk ...

Based on this inspirational picture ...

And how this awkward corner in my Lounge Room once looked like this ...

But now looks like this ...

I made my own stain from a wash of black paint for the legs, and then a much lighter black wash for the top.

Then I gave the legs a coat of clear varnish and the top 3 coats of clear varnish to seal and protect.

This area is now so practical.  I have set up the kid's homework laptop on the far end.  The middle section is for me and has a tray for bills etc. The left side is for our iPads.  I've asked hubby to make me a rustic wooden stand for them so the kids can FaceTime the grandparents more easily.  This end is also functional for my youngest to be playing games on the iPad while I help my elder with their homework on the other end. I also made a drop cloth pin board out of an old picture frame to hang on the wall above.

Three chairs will fit neatly under the table side by side, and I have three gorgeous spindle back chairs that will be perfect here. I'm just trying to decide whether to leave the chairs a light wood colour or paint them black.

So here is my inspirational pic and the finished space ...

I couldn't be happier! :)

My Handy Man Can!

Woohoo, I'm the luckiest girl in the world!

Well, it certainly feels that way, especially after hubby came out of his handyman closet!

He has been holding out on me. He can build things.  Real things.  Made out of real wood. Namely furniture!

A dream come true, right all you DIY ladies out there?

Good looks and handy hands.  What more could a girl want.

I love to paint and decorate, but I'm no builder and I've always envied those lovely ladies with hubbies or dads that could build anything.

Well I'm excited to proclaim to the world that I am no longer green with envy.

It all started with this gorgeous picture I found on Pinterest.

Look at this absolutely perfect space. If you have been following my blog for a while, you will know that I have this corner in my lounge/dining room that I have always thought of as awkward and under used.

Here is the last picture I took of this space a few weeks ago.

I hardly ever use the desk and the display cabinet was just filling a bare corner.

I thought if I could place a large narrow table there, I could use it as a desk for myself, as well as a work space for the kids homework or iPads or sewing.  The list goes on.

So I sold my white country style desk and the corner cabinet, leaving hubby to hopefully build me a table. I knew he had some skills as he had build a "walk the plank" and "hook toss" for my son's birthday party a few weeks ago.

And so after Hubby did some Googling, drafting, measuring, purchasing the timber, and some sawing, drilling and screwing, this is my brand new desk ...

I love it!

I think he did an amazing job and I am so proud of him.

It is EXACTLY what I wanted!

I just need to sand and stain my new desk and it will be perfect.  Plus add a few pretties on the wall and top and it will be a very welcoming and usable space.

I'll keep you posted on my progress now all the hard work has been done. ;)

Thank you and love you Honey!

I thought it might be fun to take a look back at some of my favourite furniture makeovers.  I'm going to break it down into types of furniture.  Today, I'm going to show you some of my lounge suites and arm chairs that I have previously restyled.  I hope you enjoy looking back at them as much as I have. :)
