Christmas Tweaking and a Few New Additions

I can't believe I'm still making Christmas things and tweaking our house 2 days before Christmas!

I braved the shopping centre yesterday and found some super cute Christmas bargains that had to find a home, in my home, before Christmas.

These cute little trees with cute little wooden bases were marked down from $25 to $3!

So I grabbed 2.

The wreaths were also marked down to $3 each.

Burlap and Bells Wreath

I got this wreath a few days ago on Christmas clearance for $2 and really wanted to make something  nice for our front door.

I had a roll of burlap ribbon so I wrapped it round my wreath first and hot glued it in place.

Christmas Ornament Shadow Box

My husband's mother gave the children these cute little handmade Christmas ornaments a few years ago. They were so fragile that the kids used them once and I've had them in storage ever since.

I came across them this year and decided to make a shadow box with them.

I found this house shaped shadow box a few years ago at a
garage sale and thought it would be perfect.

A Little More Christmas ...

The Christmas Warehouse was having a sale so I popped in today and picked up a few more Christmasy things to share with you.
I knew this would be a great time to try out my new camera too. ;)

I got this really cute little reindeer. It's made of a straw like material.

I'm Excited About My New Camera!

I'm not photography expert, but I do try to produce pretty pictures for my blog.

I have been wanting a new camera and I finally got one as a hand-me-down. It's the Canon EOS M.

It takes far better quality photos than my previous carmera. The images are just crisper and show so much more detail.

I'm so excited to be testing it out on upcoming blog posts!

I'd love to know what you think.

Our Christmas Front Verandah

I wasn't planning on decorating the front verandah, so I kept it quite simple.

During the day ...

I purchased a small green tree and placed it in a basket. Then decorated it with solar fairy lights and a big white bow.

Gold Christmas Wreath

I wanted a fabulous wreath to go with this year's fabulous tree.

I had a large green wreath and I used the same spray bottle painted
on snow technique that I used for our tree.

I made a centrepiece similar to the one on our tree.

Our 2015 Glittery Gold Christmas Tree

I love this year's tree. It is by far my most extravagant tree to date.

You might remember I recently spray painted snow on our tree.
You can see the the details here.

I went with a gold theme this year, which included dark
and light shades of gold and copper.

Gold Floral Christmas Tree Topper

Before I reveal this year's Christmas tree, I wanted to share my DIY gold floral topper.

I really wanted something more exciting on the top of our Christmas tree this year
instead of a star or angel. So I started Googleing and found some
unique and pretty DIY tree toppers. I thought I'd give my own a try.

Snowy Spray Painted Christmas Tree

Similar to my previous post on my Chalk Paint Flocked Christmas Tree,
I decided to try using a spray bottle filled with watered down white
paint to flock our large green Christmas tree.

So I took it outside all assembled and placed in onto a large tarp.

Gold Spray Painted Christmas Tree

I found this post here and decided I'd love to make my own gold Christmas Tree.

So I purchased a reasonably cheap green Christmas Tree from Big W for $25. It had lots of branches so I thought this was a great for the price.

Hidden Bedroom Charging Station

I often have my phone and laptop in the bedroom at night,
so I also have the chargers in there too.
I also have my Kindle charger next to the bed,
plus my clock and lamp cords.
This adds up to one big mess of cords.
And this drives me crazy!

So today I made myself a hidden charging station.
What do you think?
Can't see it?

Bedroom Tallboys Restyled

I have been wanting to restyled our bedroom tallboys for a while.

I was growing bored with the stuck on old book pages and they were looking a bit grubby.
So I removed all the drawer knobs and took to them with my scraping blade. It took a few days!

Then I applied a few coats of new white paint,
followed by a couple of coats of clear poly.

Pianola Roll Cabinet

I found this vintage Pianola Roll Cabinet at a Church sale a few months back.
I had never seen one before and didn't even know what it was until
the seller explained. How cool, right?

Here it is in it's full original purchased state. It must have been sitting in an old
garage for a very long time cause it was filthy.

White Sideboard Makeover

I love my white dining room sideboard.

Here is how it has looked for a while now.
I had painted it all white using chalk paint, highly
distressed the details and sealed with clear wax.
But I find the way doesn't seal as good as varnish and my
lovely dresser was getting quite grubby on the
drawers and top and was not cleaning up well.
The large mirror on top was in the same condition as when I
found it on the roadside and I really wanted to clean it up a bit.

No Door Knockers Sign ~ Best Project I've Ever Done!

Okay, to some this may seem a bit inhospitable, but for us, it is the best project I have ever done!

This is the sign that greets "strangers" at our front door ...

We used to get a large number of electricity companies and solar energy representatives banging on our front door at all hours of the day, some just refusing to take no for an answer, no matter how nicely we declined.

It became stressful and upsetting to the point where I decided to take a stand.

I hung this sign near our front door.

(It used to include baby sleeping which was true to some extent cause I did have a toddler who took afternoon naps. Lol.)

And guess what!

In the whole like 3 years or so that I have had it hanging out there, only one "door knocker" has been brave enough to ring our door bell.  I didn't kill her, but I wasn't very happy. All I can say is lucky it was hubby who answered the door.

The postman and parcel delivery guy all know this sign is not for them and ring our bell when need be, and that I don't mind at all.  Who doesn't love getting deliveries!

Some people like to joke about our sign, but seriously I love it.

In fact, I also took a stand with our telephone line given the extreme amount of similar telemarketing calls we were receiving both from Australia and overseas.  I simply unplugged our phone. Now we get none. I don't have to run to the phone anymore or dread answering another painful foreign telemarketer.

Both these measures have made life a lot more peaceful. I am in control of who I communicate with and when. I like to think of my home as my haven, and by blocking out these intrusions, I really do.

DIY Wall Sconces

I have been wanting to make some wooden wall sconces for a long time.
I love candles and seeing them lit up  on the wall makes the room feel so cosy.

So, last week I put together my first wall sconces.

I used some scrap wood and cut 2 different size rectangles and nailed
them together at right angles. I also had some scrap moulding
which I attached to the front of each sconce with Liquid Nails.

Then I painted them white and added a picture hanger to the back.

I had the glass candle holders in my stash, awaiting their new sconces. :)

I also drilled two holes on either side of the glass holders and
threaded twine through for decoration and to hold them in place.

Then I hooked them securely over nails on the wall.

I've placed them on the wall in the lounge/dining room so I can
enjoy them at night and during the day.

And here they are all lit up.

:) Julie
