I moved my living room curtains from my plantation shutter windows, to my sliding doors.

From here ...

To here ...

I planned to use the new curtains I bought from Ikea a few weeks ago in their place.

Tuesday's Farmhouse Fancy - Sinks

If I ever get to do a kitchen reno, the first thing on the list would be a farmhouse sink.

I love their shape and the beauty they bring to your kitchen.

Here are just a few I'm dreaming of ....

Shabby French Farmhouse Dining Setting

I restyled this dining setting a short while ago and wanted to do a quick share.

The table was a similar colour to the chairs.  Don't you just love spindle back chairs.

Framed Vintage Scissors and My First Video Blog!

Okay, today I'm very nervously sharing my first ever video tutorial on how to creatively Frame and Display Vintage Scissors.

I've included some pics, but for a more in detail tutorial please click below to see my video. I have been wanting to do this for a very long time and it is a very basic video, but I'd love to hear your feedback on what you thought and if you would like to continue seeing more videos.

My Trip to Ikea, New Rugs and Our New Coffee Table

Yesterday I took the kids to Ikea. Before we could shop we had to visit the cafe. Can't shop on an empty stomach. ;)

There are 2 Ikea stores in Sydney and I'm lucky enough to live about a 30 minute drive away from one.  But still, I don't go there often cause I know I'll spend way too much money. And this trip was no exception.

Here is my stash ...

I have been wanting a nice rug for the entryway for like forever, so when I saw this jute one at a reasonable price, in the trolley it went.

Here is our old one ...

And the new one ...

I have also been wanting a jute rug for the living room. I haven't been able to afford one, but then I saw this one at half the price of the ones I had been looking at. Who could go past half price, right? Work with me here. ;)

Here is our old one ...

And the new one ...

And both the new rugs together ...

You will remember from my earlier post that I recently redid this coffee table but wasn't going to keep it as it didn't match our rug and was a bit high. Well, now I have a new rug that it does match and it was easy to cut the legs down. Now it is perfect!

Now back to my shopping ...

I have also been looking for another set of white cotton curtains and these were an absolute bargain. I'm not entirely sure where they will go, but I knew I'd regret not getting them while I was there.

I have also been looking for a Lego table for me kids for a while, and everyone seems to think the Ikea Trofast systems are the way to go so I got one.

It is a new version of the old version, the difference being the pine is a bit lighter in colour. Which I absolutely love. And cause they hadn't changed the price tickets, I got it for the old lower price. Even better! I chose white boxes cause it will live behind the lounge and I wanted it to blend in as much as possible.

I also spotted the perfect chair to go with my black desk, but I was already way over budget.

This is the chair I wanted ...
When I got home I found out the arms would unscrew off my current chair so I'm just going to recover the one I have with some pretty fabric. :) Another project to add to my list!

Black and White Coffee Table Makeover

I made over this coffee table a few weeks ago with the intention of selling it. Every time I complete a piece of furniture I see if it is a keeper or not. This one wasn't, mainly because it was a bit too high and didn't match in with our rug.

Here is the before photo.

I sand off the varnish on the top and applied a clear lacquer.

However there was this one spot which appeared to be an oil spot and was near impossible to remove completely.

It bugged me no end, so I decided to do a dry brush of white paint over the top, including that stubborn stain. Then I re-varnished it.

I kept the original darker stain on the legs and went over it with black chalk paint. I loved how my black desk turned out so I again used a wet cloth to wipe of the paint on the edges to let some of the original warm stain tones come through.

I was pretty happy with the result, however after a few weeks on ebay and with no sale I decided to keep it. You will see why in my next post!

Wednesday's Projects Past - DIY No Cost Wire Cutlery Holder

A long while ago I was coveting one of these ...

But I just couldn't justify the spend, so I decided to use what I already had to make a DIY No Cost Wire Cutlery Holder.

I used a round wire basket (thrifted at a yard sale), some old white coffee mugs, and some highball glasses we didn't use much.  I fit them all neatly into the basket and then added our cutlery, and the kids as well :)  The kids at the front and all the sharp pointy knives at the back in the glass jars, away from little fingers.

I used an old white vase which was the perfect size to store our larger knives. And our other utensils (most of which are in the dishwasher instead of the photo, hehe) I put in a white tin vase that I also got at a yard sale. Then I placed them all in a white tray (also something I had thrifted and painted myself) on our kitchen counter.

It took a while to get used to not opening the utensil drawer, and we did use it for a good while, but eventually I gave up on the basket and put all the utensils back in the drawer.

I still love this project though and wanted to share it with you again.

:) Julie
