Adding Grey Accents to the Lounge Room - Including Ikea Cushions and a New Rug

I'm being brave and introducing some grey into my decorating pallet with some new accents.

I haven't used grey before, but I'm totally loving it.

On a trip to Bunnings a few weeks ago I saw some gorgeous grey rugs. Of course, I didn't think I could justify spending money on a new rug, so I walked away.  After obsessing for a week, I decided to go back for another look and to my dismay, they had sold out! Even worse was that these rugs were only a promotional item and were not coming back into stock. Isn't it always the way! However, I did find these rugs in stock at another store. Woohoo! I drove straight there and snapped that rug up as fast as I could.

And I'm happy to say it looks perfect in the Lounge Room.

This is the red rug that used to be in the Lounge Room. We've had it for about 5 years so I don't feel too guilty about buying another one. ;)

Plus, the new one is a lot softer underfoot and a lot easier to vacuum my little kitty hairs off.

Then to compliment the grey in my new rug, I purchased four gorgeous grey cushions covers from Ikea.  Two are grey check, and the other two have a thin grey stripe on one side and a grey floral pattern on the other side. They are a generous 50cms x 50cms and I was lucky enough to have spare inserts already.

They look fabulously inviting mixed in with my DIY numbered cushions and lumber cushions.

I also found this super soft light grey throw from Target for the bargain price of $6. Target is introducing a lot of new homewares at lower prices so I have to remember to keep a look out when I'm in there.

I also purchased some black ottomans. And although these aren't grey, they are new and go perfectly with everything else in the room so I wanted to share them too.

The kids have been using the plastic Ikea kids stools to sit at the coffee table to do kid stuff, but one of the legs cracked on one stool the other day so I decided to replace them with some ottomans instead. I found these black ones at Kmart for $29 each. The kids can use them as seats. The adults can use them as foot stools, and most importantly, the are far more ascetically pleasing than the old plastic stools. And, the kids love them. Win, win.

Next, I'll be sharing what else I've been crushing on lately.

:) Julie
