DIY Ikea Plant Topiary Tutorial
Today I'm sharing my DIY topiaries I made from two Ikea artificial potted plants.
I even took lots of pics so I'm including a detailed tutorial.
What you'll need:
- Ikea Fejka Potted Artificial Plants.
- Masking tape or floristry tape.
- Floristry foam.
- Artificial grass and/or moss.
- Paint in a few different shades of green.
- Air dry clay.
- Hot glue gun.
- Twine (optional).
Firstly, grab your plants and twist out the stems from the pots. (Yes, they literally just twist out.)
Next I grabbed my chopsticks and attached them to the stems with masking tape.
(You could also use green florist tape and skip the painting step.)
Next, you will need some florist foam or something to pack in your pot to help your chop stick stand up.
I cut my foam to about an inch and packed it in.
Next, I grabbed a roll of artificial grass.
Then I cut a circle to fit my pots and cut a smaller circle in the middle for the chopsticks.
Poke the chopsticks through the grass.
Then add some hot glue to the stick and bottom of the grass.
Insert the stick through the foam and into the pots.
Then push everything down to stick firmly in place.
Next I missed up some dark green paint and painted the chopsticks and masking tape.
This made my stems look more lifelike.
Then I grabbed some air drying clay.
I rolled it out in a long snake and wrapped it around the stems to imitate vines.
Then I grabbed my Moss Green paint.
And painted my vines.
I wasn't too particular cause I wanted to blend my paint colours anyway.
Next I missed up a very dark green and dotted it over my vines and stems, blending here and there to make them look more realistic.
Lastly I purchased a bag of green moss to add to the top of my grass.
(This was totally optional, but I thought it looked cute.)
Add a bit of hot glue to keep it in place.
Lastly I tied some twine around my pots.
And here they are, all finished.
They turned out so well I'm going to make some more!
