My Farmhouse Style Kitchen Tour!
Our small farmhouse style kitchen has been a work in progress since we moved in 3 year ago, doing small DIY jobs here and there. Now I'm happy to finally share with you the changes we have made so far...
Here is a "before" shot of the kitchen before we moved in ... but I warn you, it's not pretty ...
Yes, those cupboards and benches are salmon pink. Barf!
And now ....
So, the first thing we did was had the benches repainted a faux black granite. Massive improvement.
I removed 2 of the cupboard doors to create an open shelving display.
We use a thrifted wooden try to store our tea and coffee. The jar chalkboard labels were a DIY addition.
I replaced the nasty old range hood with a DIY new one. You can see the full post here.
I all painted a canvas Coffee Sign for above the stove, and added an old shutter behind the stove top to fill in the awkward corner.
I printed chalk board style labels for our bench top canisters, and added matching labelled wire baskets for bread, biscuits and utensils.
I repainted the walls Dulux Hogs Bristle Half to match in with the rest of the house.
Above is the view looking down the other end of the kitchen. The little pot cupboard was a roadside rescue, and the old medicine cabinet was 50 cents at a yard sale. Love them both. On the left is our original pantry that has been repainted and MDF panelling added. I'd like to orgainse the inside a bit better and that is still on the to do list.
Our kitchen overlooks our sun room. We get lots of light from the Plantation shutters and skylight. However, I'd still like to get rid of the down lights and add some cool farmhouse style lights.
The counter and framework was originally brown wood. I've painted it white to match in with the rest of the house. We officially now have no brown wood trim in the house. Woohoo!
I added a white enamel colander as our fruit bowl. And who can resist a vase of tulips.
Still on the to do list is to frame the fridge in with a cupboard above and wall on the far side.
Another major and yet super cheap DIY job was restyling the pantry and all the kitchen cabinets. I kept the original doors and used MDF to create a panelled effect. Then I repainted them a bright semi gloss white. The door and drawer handles were also replaced with country style knobs and handles. So much better! Doesn't it make a huge difference.
Still to do is find a rug that I like to replace the current blue ones.
But all in all, I'm super happy with how the kitchen is has come along so far. Here's a reminder of before and after ....
Also on the list is a new tap fitting. I have my heart set on a gorgeous farmhouse style one at Ikea which we'll get next time we visit.
Hope you like my new kitchen.
