DIY Faux Brick Fireplace

When I saw this vinyl brick self adhesive paper at Bunnings, I knew exactly where I wanted to put it ...

on the fireplace wall!

This paper doesn't say it is for walls and in fact, it's probably intended for book covering or craft projects, however given it was such a small area and the price was only $5 a roll, I didn't think I had anything to lose in trying.

Putting the paper up wasn't too hard. It did take me a while as I've never wallpapered before and lining up all the bricks was a challenge. And I couldn't find an exact pattern which made it harder. Having said that, I'm super happy with how it turned out. I was worried that because it was vinyl paper it would look cheap and tacky. But it definitely doesn't.

And with a few decorative touches on my recently created rustic mantle, I think it looks awesome.

The bricks are a light brown colour so they don't dominate the room too much. In fact, they match in perfectly with all my neutral decor.

I was scared too that the bricks would make the room feel cold, but it actually has the opposite effect. And with the fire going it feels so cosy.

I only used 4 rolls of paper so the cost of this project was just over $20. Bargain! And the paper is also easy to remove if I decide to change it later.

Stay warm, stay safe!
