Chandelier Makeover using Rub n Buff (and a lot of trial and error)

 Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Did you see my dining room makeover? I was debating changing up the chandelier.

Well, I decided to go for it. I'm still not sure if that was a good idea or not. 😕

What's the saying? "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again."

And that I did.

All I can say is it was definitely time consuming and just a tad frustrating. 😖

But I got there in the end!😅

Let's take a look at what my chandelier used to look like ...

Flat black. Which was good, but I've been wanting to change out some of my black accents.

Initially, I really liked the idea of wood and metal like the picture below.

Plus, I had my new Rub n Buff in European Gold to test out.

ATTEMPT 1

I decided to use the Rub n Buff only on the scrollwork.

And to create a wood appearance, I did some research and found Rustoleum Brown Glaze, used over white chalk paint can give the illusion of wood.

And guess what? They were totally right! 😀

The parts I tried this technique on turn out super cute!

But when I put them together, it was okay, but I just found there wasn't enough contrast. 😞

ATTEMPT 2

So I repainted the Rub n Buff with flat black paint again.

But I still wasn't happy. Too much contrast. Plus, I was trying to get rid of the black! 😔

ATTEMPT 3

So I decided to try the Rub n Buff in European Gold.

Still not happy. 😔

ATTEMPT 4

Next I repainted the scrollwork white and added the glaze again so it looked like all wood.

Nope, still not feeling it. 😫

ATTEMPT 5

Then I thought I'd go for all white with a bit of distressing.

Another fail. 😩

ATTEMPT 6

I still had my original Rub n Buff in Antique Gold that I used on my mantel mirror. So, why not go all out gold. After all, I'd tried everything else!

And finally, I think I'm happy! 😍😊

Thank goodness! 😓

I thought that chandelier would be the end of me. 😛

I've ordered some crystals to attach to it. We'll see how that goes. If not, at least I got the colour right!

In case you forgot here is the before and after ...

So, despite the Sydney lockdown, I've been keeping myself very busy. 😜

And you know what, decorating can be like that. A bit (or a lot) of trail and error.

Another saying that comes to mind is "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". And I'm feeling like Super Woman! 😂

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

Take care and stay safe,
