DIY Wooden Christmas Tree Tutorial

Hi Friends!

Today I'm showing you how to make a Christmas tree if you don't have a lot of space in your home. Cause this one hangs on the wall!

To begin with you need to draft out your tree. I decided to make two trees of differing sizes.

After I'd done all my measurements, I purchased my pine, cut it to size and painted it white.

For the centre of my tree I used a fence post. I loved that the top had a point like a real tree.

So after cutting my pieces, I positioned them and glued them together.

Then I clamped them to dry. I placed a cotton pad under the clamps to avoid marking the wood.

You will want to drill and screw your tree branches too to make sure they are secure.

Next I marked out where I wanted my screws for my ornaments.

I used these 15mm cup screws in gold.

You will want to drill first for these. Make sure your drill bit is the right width as the screws.

I marked all my hook positions with a pencil first, then drilled all the holes.

Then hand screwed all the hooks.

To create an aged effect I used black paint.

Dipping my finger in the paint, then rubbing it along the edges and smudging in different places.

Next I added my lights. I used wire lights as they held their shape better. I knew the length of my lights so I just worked out a pattern to best hang them.

A zig zag design worked best.

I used some double sided tape for attached the light battery pack to the back of my tree.

And for hanging my tree on the wall I used a tooth hook.

Here is my finished tree!

You could leave it as is OR ...

Add some pretty decorations!

One of my trees was a gift for a friend. Do you think she will know what it is? Lol.

And the other one I kept to hang in my entryway.

It can be changed up every year too!

There are so many variations you could make of this tree. You could paint it a different colour like green for the branches and brown for the trunk.

I hope this post has inspired you to make your own!

Julie 😊
